Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
Updates for 2025-2026 School Year
At University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy, all students are required to bring a personal laptop to school that meets a minimum set of requirements. Whether using a device already owned or purchasing a new device, families are asked to follow the most up-to-date device requirements.
Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, new students must have a PC laptop (Microsoft Windows operating system). If purchasing a new device, students should not purchase a Google Chromebook, Apple Laptop, or Apple iPad. Current students, either in the High School or the Academy, may continue to use their previously owned personal device that they originally purchased for their time at U of D Jesuit.
Minimum Device Requirements
U of D Jesuit works in a Microsoft environment. (No Chromebooks or Apple Laptops/Tablets)
Each student must bring a device that (at a minimum):
- Processor: Intel Core i5/i7/i9, Core Ultra 5/7/9 or AMD Equivalent
- Memory: 16 GB RAM minimum, 32GB recommended
- Hard Drive: 500 GB Solid State Drive minimum
- Graphics Card: A discrete graphics processor may be needed if enrolled in Engineering, Robotics, or Technology classes
- Screen Resolution: 1920 x 1080 (Full HD)
- Display type: touchscreen or non-touchscreen (touchscreen preferred)
- Operating System: Windows 11
- Wireless: Wi-Fi 6 minimum
- Allow use of a microphone and a headphone jack, either separate jacks for the microphone and headphone, a combined microphone/headphone jack, or a USB port.
- Have a minimum battery life of 8 hours after a full charge. If the device allows batteries to be swapped and the student can bring multiple charged batteries to school, that is acceptable.
In addition, every student must bring with his device:
- A physical keyboard, either built into the device or as a separate Bluetooth keyboard.
- A headset or earbuds. If the device doesn't include a microphone, the student must bring a microphone as well. A microphone built into the headset is a good idea.
- A protective case or padded bag for their device.
