Dennis Currier '62

The honoree for the 2023-24 school year is Dennis Currier who passed away in August of 2023.

Dennis was born on June 10, 1944, to mother Jean McCann and father Vincent Currier in Detroit, MI. He grew up in Detroit with his brothers Mike and Tim, and a closely knit family nearby. After graduating from the University of Detroit High School in 1962, Dennis received his Bachelor's degree in engineering at The University of Notre Dame, becoming a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. He went on to get his Master's degree in accounting at the University of Michigan. However, he remained a proud member of the Fighting Irish, especially on game day.

Dennis began his professional career at Price Waterhouse, going on to be a partner at Ernst & Young and later, Plante Moran. It was there that he was tapped to become the CFO of DMC Harper Hospital and, after a short stint as a consultant for J. Alix, he ultimately served as the CFO of Health Centers of Detroit until 2013.

He was an active member at the Birmingham Athletic Club, Bloomfield Hills Country Club, and the Walloon Lake Country Club. Dennis was immensely proud of the only two holes-in-one he ever made despite his best efforts -- both of them at hole 5 at the Detroit Country Club and old Harbor Point courses, respectively. Dennis also loved water skiing, boating, playing bridge, and enjoying the sunset with his beloved friends and family at his cottage on Walloon Lake.

Dennis was married to Jan Chomiak from 1968 - 1974. They had two children, Dennis Thomas Currier II (Tom) and Kaylin Weihs. He then married Susan Toth Currier from 1975-1997 and they had three children together, Jean Williams, Casey Currier, and Patrick Currier. Later in his life, he reconnected with his high school sweetheart Rose Obloy.

Dennis, known for his dry wit, stubbornness, and generosity, suffered a stroke in 2013. He relocated to Texas in 2016 to be closer to his son Tom's family, who cared for him until his passing.

Dennis was predeceased by his mother Jean McCann, father Vincent Currier, stepfather Jack McCann and his son Patrick Currier. He is survived by his brothers Mike (Patti) Currier, Tim (Ellen) Currier, his son Tom (Michelle) Currier, and daughters Kaylin Weihs, Jean (Charlie) Williams, and Casey (Eli) Currier. Dennis left behind five grandchildren, Kevin Currier, Kayleigh Currier, Michael Weihs, Lily Williams and Charlie Williams as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by both his family and lifelong friends.
