Coach William “Bill” Thibodeau Scholarship

This scholarship fund has been established to honor the life and legacy of William Thibodeau

Coach William “Bill” Thibodeau came to U of D High as an English teacher and head varsity basketball coach to start the 1969-1970 school year. While here, he earned the respect of his students and his colleagues for his innovative approach to teaching English. Additionally, he brought his innovations to the basketball court, which he combined with a disciplined approach, in leading the Varsity Basketball Team to historic success, culminating in 1972 when the ’72 team won the first Catholic League Basketball Championship in the school’s ninety-five-year history.

In honor and memory of Coach Thibodeau, the 1972 team has instituted the Coach William “Bill” Thibodeau Scholarship, which will be awarded to a deserving incoming freshman and will span the recipient’s four years of education at The High. Coach’s influence on the ’72 team was life-changing. It is the desire of the team for this scholarship to positively impact the lives of many young men in the years to come.
