Immersion Experiences

Immersion Experiences

The Ignatian Service Office at U of D Jesuit offers its students, alumni, and faculty opportunities to participate in week-long service trips locally, nationally, and internationally. Many of these experiences help participants gain a better understanding of the culture and society in which they are working. By working directly with those individuals in need, participants are able to see how their actions benefit not only those they are serving, but also how serving has its own reward.

Chicago Urban Plunge!

A group of U of D Jesuit students will take part in a week-long service project in Chicago. Students will have the opportunity to assist with different service agencies as well as explore the history and culture of the Windy City. The trip will take place from June 25th - June 30th, 2017. Students will meet with government officials, local leaders, reflect on the life and impact of Oscar Romero, and participate in a 3 day “homestay” in a rural village. This trip will take place June 24-July 2, 2017.

Immersion Detroit!

Immersion: Detroit is a week-long experience with a general theme of "service days and cultural nights." Students will spend the day serving local food pantries, homeless shelters, and outreach agencies. In the evenings, we will explore the rich history and heritage of the city -- including the Solanus Casey Center, the Detroit Riverwalk, Belle Isle, Pewabic Tile, Mexicantown, Eastern Market, and the Motown Museum. Students and faculty leaders will stay at Saint Andrews. This year's trip is scheduled to run June 12 – 17, 2017.
