University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy has
a remarkable mission in providing a superb education within the city of
Detroit. In 1877, the school was founded by the Jesuits at the request
of the Bishop of the Diocese of Detroit. The high school was academically
distinguished from the University of Detroit in 1916.
The school was moved to its current location in 1931. In 1977,
the Jesuits made a decision to remain in Detroit, a critical element of
its mission of education.
The school's mission is rooted in the life experience of
St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus (The Jesuits).
Its style of education finds its basis in the Jesuit tradition of education.
U of D Jesuit holds as its aim, in the words of Fr. Pedro Arrupe, S.J.,
the education of "Men for Others," who will use all they learn
at the school in service to others.
