Achievements

No matter what one's ability, U of D Jesuit offers a wide range of sports opportunities. With academy, freshman, junior varsity, and varsity teams competing in 14 different sports (see chart below), there is opportunity to play and compete immediately at U of D Jesuit.

The U of D Jesuit Cubs are members of the Catholic League--considered one of the most competitive leagues in the state. The Cub athletic teams have a long tradition of excellence and have experienced great success in the past few years. Our successes have included:

Academy Basketball: 2007 - Team 2 - League Champions; Team 1 - tied for Division Championship; Division Champions, District Champions, Regional Champions, and 2003 CYO Champions, Division Champions, District Champions, Regional Finalists 2004

Baseball: 2008 - Academic All State - Christopher Ruemenapp, Michael Sheehy; All Catholic League - Dan Fields, Chaste Green, Michael Sheehy. 2006 - State Runner-up to Grosse Pointe North. All League: Cary Piligian, Dan Fields. All Catholic: AAron Fields, Arthur Middlebrooks. All-Academic CHSL: Chris McAlpine. All Distric: Aaron Fields, Dan Fields, Arthur Middlebrooks, Cary Piligian. Academic All District: David Kelly, Martin LaRouer, Chris McAlpine, Paul McAlpine, William Ward. 2nd Team All State: Cary Piligian, Aaron Fields. Academic All State: Chris McAlpine, Paul McAlpine Dan Kelly. Academic All State Team. District and Regional Coach of the Year: Al Fernandez. 2004 & 2001 District Champions.

Basketball: 2007 - Academic All Catholic - Jeff Jones; All Catholic - James Holly; All League - Jordan Morgan. 2004 - CHSL Championship Runner-Up; MHSAA District Champs. 2003 - Catholic League Central Division 1st place.

Bowling: 2007 - Academic All Catholic - Carl Stanhope; All League - Dan Sobczynski; All Conference Honorable Mention - Nick Eastman. 2004 & 2005 - Catholic League Champions.

Cross Country: 2007 - All Catholic & All Regional Honors - Jim Pearson, Phil Fattore, Phil Clark, David Funke and James Holly; All State - 6th place - James Pearson (fastest UDJ time ever at MIS); District Honors - Phil Fattore, Jim Pearson and Phil Clark. 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 - State Regional Champions.

Football: 2007 - All Academic Catholic League - Ted Bealin; All Catholic Honors - Craig Hamilton, and George Winn; All League Honors - Joe Thompson and Joe West. Regional Champions - 1999 District and Regional Champs, 2000 District Champions, 2001 District and Regional Champs

Golf: 2008 - Division I Regional champions; 10th in the State as a team. 2007 - All State Academic Team - Highest GPA in Division 1; All State Academic Honors - Pat Alger; All State Honorable Mention - Pat Alger; All Catholic Honors - Ryan Alger. Regional Champions - 2000, 2003 and 12th in State as a team

Hockey: 2008 Honors: #1 Academic Team in the State for the 3rd Consecutive Year, 3.75 Team GPA, 4th time being #1 in the state in their 13 year history and 13th consecutive year as an Academic All-State Team; Academic All-State - Tom Zelinski, Andy Pung, Chris Eng; Honorable Mention All-League - Donte' Jenkins; 2nd Team All-League, 1st Team All-State - Mac Olson; 2nd Team All-League, Honorable Mention All-State - Mike Yanis; Honorable Mention All-League, 2nd Team All-State - Alex Van Tiem. 2007 Honors: #1 Academic Team in the State with a GPA of 3.67, Academic All State - Stephen Yackley, Stephen Harnadek, Mike Raymond, and Blake Karapuz; All State - Pat Moran; Catholic League Honors - Pat Moran, Stephen Yackley, and Mike Raymond; All League - Pat Moran; All League Honorable Mention - Stuart Copley, Mike Yanis, Stephen Yackley, Donte' Jenkins, Tom Zelinski and Mike Raymond. 2006 Honors: #1 in the state Academic Team with a GPA of 3.46, Academic All State - Grayson Heenan, Mike Fontichiaro, Matt Paletta, Scott Granger, Dave Kelly, Cam Peralta and Kyle Gorka; All State - Grayson Heenan; Honorable Mention All State - Dante Hargis, Matt Paletta and Dom Recchia. Catholic League Honors: Division 1 First Team All-Catholic - Matt Paletta; Division 1 First Team All-League - Grayson Heenan; Division 1 All-Academic - Cam Peralta. 2004 - Ranked #7 in State Div. 2. 2003 - Ranked #4 in State Div. 2. 2000 - Division 2 Champions.

Lacrosse: 2008 Honors: Academic All Catholic--Colin Bayer. All Catholic--Brendan Rooney and Mike Degenhardt. All League--Alex Bradley and Jon Marsalese. 2006 Honors: Catholic League Scholar Athletes: Matt Paletta and Luke Nemes. All-Catholic: Jack Malone, Matt Paletta. All League: Tom Herzog and Joe Vincent. All State: Joe Vincent. All American: Joe Vincent. 2005 - MHSAA District Champions, Regional Champions, and State Runners-up. Honors: All-American -Tim MacLean and Matt Vitous. Catholic League Honors: All-Catholic Joe Stephanoff and Matt Vitous, All-League Tim Lee and Tim MacLean, All-Academic Mike VanTiem. 2004 - MHSAA District Champions, Regional Champions, and State Semi-Finalists. 2003 - Ranked #2 in State and #4 in Midwestern Divisio; Coach Foust - US Lacrosse Secondary Schools, Coach of the Year; John Dunn - US Lacrosse All-American team.

Ski Team: 2008 - Scholar Athletes - Mike Aiello, Jeff Harness; All Region & All State - Jeff Harness; 2007 - Academic All Catholic - Andrew Clark; All League - Jeff Harness; All Region - Jeff Harness; State Qualifier - Jeff Harness. 2003 - Ranked #7 in lower State division; #1 in Mt. Brighton Division.

Soccer: 2007 - All State Honors - Phillip Presnell; All State Honorable Mention - Markian Shier; All Academic Catholic League Honors - Peter Fino; All Catholic Honors - Peter Fino, Phillip Presnell and Markian Shier; All League Honors - John Abela, Frank Iaquinta and Jake Mechlowicz. 2005 - John Schaefer named to the Division 1 State Soccer Dream Team. 2001 - State Champions. 1999 - State Playoffs.

Swimming: 2008 - Team Academic All State; 2007 - Tony Wahl - 200 IM (Individual Medley) 1.51.36 status All Catholic, All State (State Champion), All-American; 100 Butterfly 49.52 status All Catholic, All State (State Champion), All-American. 2003 - Ranked #12 in State. 2000 - 4th place in Class A State Meet.

Tennis: 2006 - All Catholic: Vince Brennan, Peter Grandolph, Peter Nicolay, Patrick Troy, Dave Van Egmond. All League: Michael Cole. All Academic: Alex Widlak. 2004 and 2005 -Division I State Qualifier; Romeo Invitational Tournament Champion 2005; 3rd place in Catholic League and MHSAA Regional Tournaments - 2000, 2004, 2005; 2nd place in Catholic League and 3rd place in MHSAA Regional Tournaments - 2001

Track & Field: State Regional Champions - 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and Catholic League Champions 2002, 2003, 2004.

Wrestling: 2008 - Team Academic All State Honors; All Catholic 2nd Team - Will Lamping and Matt Gates; All Catholic 3rd Team - Jake Vincent; Honorable Mention - Phil Anania; 2007 - Team Academic All State Honors; All Catholic 2nd Team - Brandon Kidder; 3rd Team- Medvis Jackson, Jon Marsalese and Will Lamping; Honorable Mention - Dan Ruemenapp, Conley Worsham and George Thebolt.
