The Pastoral Team works with the Campus Ministry Staff to plan and implement Masses, retreats, daily morning prayer and the Daily Examen, as well as various prayer and Reconciliation services throughout the year.

U of D Jesuit offers retreats at each grade level throughout the school year. The focus on each retreat differs to offer a unique experience for the student. Academy students begin their faith formation at U of D Jesuit through Days of Reflection that evolve once they reach high school to include overnight retreats that take our students to off-site locations, away from the distraction of school and day-to-day life. Some of these unique retreats include our wilderness retreat in junior year and a silent retreat in senior year. By the time our students graduate, they will have had the opportunity to experience a Kairos Retreat in senior year, which takes our students on a journey to strengthen their relationship with God, themselves, and others.

U of D Jesuit works with international mission organizations to provide students opportunities to serve in urban, rural, and global communities. Students travel to Latin America, Appalachia and urban U.S. city centers with dense impoverished neighborhoods. These first-hand experiences provide unique educational moments to help the students gain a better understanding of living in an impoverished community. The experience is genuinely life-changing for the students as they experience the day-to-day challenges of those they serve. while finding levity in celebrating the beauty that lies within their culture through food, dance and other activities.   

U of D Jesuit students perform a combined 25,000 hours of community service during a typical school year. All students are required to complete a certain number of service hours.  Many students feel their impact during their community service and go above the required hours to serve their communities. The Campus Ministry office provides suggested service opportunities for students to participate in.

Seniors are required to select an offsite non-profit organization where they will spend 14 Wednesdays throughout the school year, during an entire school day, to serve at. Many seniors select service sites based on charities or organizations close to their hearts, while others are guided to find the right fit to ensure they experience a sense of fulfillment and empathy knowing they have made a positive difference.

The U of D Jesuit St. Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Ministry serves mostly the poor and indigent by carrying deceased men and women, who have little or no family, to their final place of rest. This ministry is open to juniors and seniors and serves the metropolitan community by offering a corporal work of mercy by assisting at a funeral. Members are trained for the role of someone who prays and assists by serving as a pallbearer, a student role accompanied by adult companions from among the faculty and staff.  The ministry is named after the man who buried Jesus Christ, St. Joseph of Arimathea.

The Labre Ministry delivers food and conversation to Detroit’s homeless community every week. Our students prepare and pack the meals in the kitchen before getting in a van to deliver directly to those in need of food and friendship.
