In April 2006
the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy began the public
phase of an unprecedented $22 million dollar campaign to further ensure
its commitment to educating students throughout Southeast Michigan.
The For The Greater Good campaign
seeks to continue the school’s tradition of outstanding educators
teaching a diverse and highly regarded student body. It is the largest
current campaign of any private or Catholic secondary school in the
State of Michigan.
At a time
when many metro-Detroit schools are closing, U of D Jesuit’s announcement
of plans to raise $22 million goes against the story-line of financially
troubled institutions and sagging enrollments as it continues its century-plus
tradition of educating the best and brightest of Detroit-area young
men. Enrollment currently stands at approximately 850.
The For
the Greater Good campaign, $20.5 million of which has already
been raised, will allow U of D Jesuit, the oldest school in Detroit,
to continue to provide more than $1 million in annual tuition assistance
to qualified students. In addition, the school will earmark millions
of dollars for programs to support professional development and compensation
initiatives for faculty members, as well as money for specific infrastructure
improvements.
Said U of
D Jesuit President Fr. Karl Kiser S.J. “As the campaign comes
to a close, I invite you to be a part of this extraordinary effort.
To ensure that your name will be included on the donor recognition board,
please make your gift or pledge by June 30, 2008. Then join us when
we celebrate the completion of the campaign on September 26, 2008 at
U of D Jesuit. On behalf of "all the fellow" past, present and future,
thank you in advance for your support of the mission of U of D Jesuit."
